THE LIFE AND CAREER OF MARIO ANDRETTI

Mario Andretti was born in Montona, Italy, on February 28, 1940. He is an Italian-born American former racing driver and one of the most successful Americans in the history of the sport. Andretti enjoyed considerable success on both sides of the Atlantic in a career which spanned more than three decades. He is one of only two drivers to have won races in Formula One, IndyCar, the World Sportscar Championship, and NASCAR. He also won races in midget cars and sprint cars.
Mario and his twin brother, Aldo, studied automobile mechanics, frequented racing-car garages, and participated in a race-driving training program in Italy. The family came to the US and Mario became US citizen in year 1964. The brothers were racing stock cars and his twin brother gave up racing after several serious crashes. He raced sprint and midget cars and began racing in the championship car division of the US Automobile Club, and Mario won.
His name and career continue to grow year by year. He won races in sports cars, sprint cars and stock cars - on ovals, road courses, drag strips, on dirt and on pavement. He won at virtually every level of motorsports. He obviously a racing icon, considered by many to be the greatest race car driver in racing history.
